Cool Kites

I admit that I am behind schedule because I was sick last week, so I didn't get my first real post up on Friday like I wanted.  Looking for something fun for the kiddoes of all ages?  Try attending one of the events put on by Midwest Kite Fliers.  They have several local events throughout the year.

This coming weekend they will be at Ditmars Orchard in Council Bluffs.http://www.ditmarsorchard.com)/
Sunday October 18 they will host the One Sky, One World Festival at the La Vista soccer complex just south of 66th and Harrison Streets in La Vista.
They also fly at their monthly meetings in Immanuel Field at 72nd and Sorenson Parkway.  Look for them on the second Wednesday of each month with decent flying weather.
Check their website for a full schedule at http://www.midwestkitefliers.org/ and to get a look at their photo gallery.  These are not your ordinary dime store kites.  These are big kites; 50 to 200 feet some of them.  They also have ground kites that bounce along for kids to run and play with.

Introduction

I'm starting this blog to collect fun things to do in Omaha and the surrounding areas that are free or very inexpensive. Our family is on a tight budget and we don't want to sit at home every weekend watching the movies we already have eating popcorn. Don't get me wrong, this is fine sometimes, especially when it's raining. Just not every single weekend. I'm looking at the Omaha metro area and places within a 20 to 30 minute drive at the most. That doesn't mean I won't also include longer trips, they won't be my main focus.

I would love to hear from others if they have found fun things to do that won't empty your wallet. I'd like to keep this blog family friendly to start with, so please no "Adults Only" activities. Also, nothing that could get me arrested. Having to pay bail and attorney's fees pretty much defeats the purpose of a free activity.
